West Central Avenue/West Spring Street – Titusville, PA

Titusville, PA - 2015

Description

West Central Avenue and West Spring Street in Titusville, PA., consisted of an asphalt overlay on an old brick pavement base. The durability of previous overlays did not meet expected pavement life. Removing or replacing the brick was not an option due to the cost. Placing a thicker pavement section was also not possible due to physical constraints such as: existing curbs, drainage, and ADA compliant ramps. As a solution to the durability issue, PennDOT District 1-0 elected to use FORTA-FI® fiber reinforcement to help improve the overlay durability and extend the life of the pavement, all while maintaining the existing curbs, drainage and ADA compliant ramps. One year later, the FORTAfied® asphalt is in excellent condition and PennDOT District 1-0 plans to continue to use FORTA-FI® in future situations.

Update

Three years later, the FORTAfied® asphalt is in excellent condition and PennDOT District 1-0 plans to continue to use FORTA-FI in future situations. Improved pavement durability and extended pavement life without changing existing curbs, drainage, and ADA compliant ramps.
