The challenge of this project was to most cost effectively replace the crumbling 40+ year old parking lot at the Sparkles Roller Rink. Their solution was to add FORTA-FI to a single 2” lift of typical HMA topping. FORTA-FI® has been proven to add more than 50% to the life of all different types of asphalt and has shown great success in eliminating or minimizing the block cracking and sunken areas that plagued this project. The labor time on this project was cut in half, offsetting the cost of FORTA-FI®, and enabled the contractor to schedule additional projects. The next morning, a tour bus unexpectedly used the freshly paved parking lot to make a U-turn. The owner immediately inspected the area and found no sign of rutting or even tire marks. He noted that FORTAfied® asphalt clearly performed better than expected, and they are confident they made the best decision.
Update
After 7 years, only a few minor distresses have been identified, proving this parking lot continues to provide excellent resistance to cracking and rutting.
