Shawnee Road

Milford, DE - 2012

Description

Delaware DOT selected Shawnee Road in Milford for the first pilot project using FORTA-FI reinforcement fibers.  This heavily traveled two-lane roadway had extensive transverse and alligator cracking.  DelDOT utilized a FORTAfied® WMA and RAS (virgin shingles) design to pave the eastbound lane from Union Church Road to DuPont Highway.  For comparison, the westbound lane was used as a control lane with no fibers.

Update

After 8 years, promising field performance of this side-by-side comparison is prompting Delaware DOT to consider using FORTA-FI for future projects.

Key Points
