Rock Creek Parkway – Washington D.C.

Rock Creek National Park, Washington D.C. - April 2018

Project Description

The Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division (EFLHD) specified FORTA-FI asphalt fiber reinforcement in the reconstruction of Beach Drive, a scenic byway turned commuter route through Rock Creek National Park, Washington D.C. In order to preserve the historical landscape and ecological resources, crews worked with the existing road’s footprint to complete the 2” mill & fill. Fiber was introduced into the 1,900 tons of asphalt through the use of The FORTA Voyager® Fiber Feeder. Its proprietary loss-in-weight system increased efficiency while maintaining accurate fiber distribution. The EFLHD can expect to see an increased life expectancy thanks to FORTA-FI’s proven ability to reduce cracking and rutting.
