Description
The original design called for inclusion of a paving fabric to help delay reflective cracking. In the end though, an alternate FORTA-FI® design was used as it offers reinforcement throughout the full depth of the asphalt and better facilitates recycling of the road in the future. The ability to reduce construction time and avoid potential hassles associated with installation of the paving fabric provided added advantages. With no added costs associated with the FORTA-FI® (relative to the paving fabric), the City of Othello was convinced that this provided the best solution on this project. On completion of the installation, a paving representative commented that “the FORTA-FI® asphalt got to 91% compaction very quickly”.
