Project Description:
The Ohio Department of Transportation used FORTA-FI® HMA fibers to reinforce portions of the State Route-13 repaving project south of Mansfield, Ohio. This high-traffic roadway connects to Interstate-71, with high-use entrance and exit ramps and a well-traveled business access intersection at Hanley Road. ODOT selected FORTA-FI® for use in a mile of the intermediate section on the north-bound divided lanes, and fiber-reinforced both the intermediate and surface courses on a mile long section of the south-bound lanes. A traditional Superpave asphalt mix design was used for the entire project, with FORTA-FI® added to the fiber-reinforced portions of the roadway where specified. Fiber was introduced into the asphalt at the Mar-Zane Plant 21 facility using an automated fiber-feeder with electronic controls to ensure accurate dosing.
