Project Description:
The City of Union used FORTA-FI® to reinforce 1400 tons of asphalt in a municipal paving project that included the lot at Parkgrove Park and street surfaces on North Montgomery Street, Parkgrove Drive, and Maple Garden Drive. City Manager John Applegate specified FORTA-FI® to be used in the asphalt mix to help it resist premature cracking and rutting, issues that cause many paving projects to fail to live up to design-life expectations. Additionally, both hot mix (HMA) and warm-mix (WMA) FORTA-FI® blends were used in various sections of the paving, so Union could test the fiber-reinforced portions against a traditional asphalt pavement which was put down a few weeks prior to the fortified placement. Mr. Applegate hopes to extend the functional life of the asphalt purchased by the city by using fiber reinforcement. In the final phase of their paving season, Union placed 1000 tons of FORTA-FI® reinforced asphalt in the Concord Meadows residential area. The Riesling Drive and Hill Circle streets were resurfaced using FORTA® Corporation’s three-dimensional fiber reinforcement technology.
